New blog???

This may seem a bit of a shock but I've decided to completely create a new blog.

The problem with my lack of updates is that I don't have a focus beyond "updating about myself" and "sometimes articles about interesting things" and that's just not good enough haha.

So while I'll still be using this account to comment and read your articles, if you're still interested in looking at mine please head over to current aesthetic over at wordpress. You can follow on Blogger through manually adding the URL to your "My reading list" on your Blogger home page.

Thanks for everything!

Okay I've been bad. Like, really bad with keeping up my blog. Not only that, but I recently started a new project (shhh!) but have been impeded upon because my mum refuses to give me my camera. Yep, you read that right, I still live at home and so I have to live by my parents' rules :/ So I have no choice but to use my phone, for now. I'm thinking of buying a camera with my savings that my mum won't have any control over ^_^;; If anyone has some good recs please let me know!

I've also been thinking of putting this blog on hiatus while I work on my new project...

Anyways yes now I'm in university and it's been really really busy! I should be doing my work right now, actually haha.

Here's an OOTD I wore recently for a catch up with some friends:

Style diaries - Packing to go overseas

Hi everyone! This will probably be uploaded when I'm in China xD But anyways, here is a quick travel post!

Airport Fashion

If you're like me and travelling across seasons (summer to winter...) wear clothes that can easily transition and are super comfortable.

In this image, the acid wash jeans (from Jayjays) are good in that they are thin enough to endure the Aussie heat if you stay in air conditioned areas (haha) and have studs that are too high to "sit on" but still look stylish. Doc Martens are a bit clunkier but completely necessary in winter as seriously, in China, I swear that if your soles are too thin your feet will become blocks of ice. While heavy, they are reasonably comfortable to roam the airport in. The jumper from Glue is thick and can be worn on board the airplane (which will be pretty cold) and when you get off. Finally, the Uniqlo linen shirt is comfortable in the sweaty summer with sleeves rolled up and good air circulation, great to wear on a long flight, and can insulate you from the cold wind overseas.

Accessories on airplanes are really unneeded and way too uncomfortable.

With baggage, I tend to fill luggage with gifts and buy most of my clothes there. ^^; I brought make up though, but as I plan to cosplay in China it may be more than what is necessary for the average fashionista ;)

Carry on bag

You can find great large and fashionable backpacks from stores such as Colette. The contents should include laptop and camera (I'm forgoing former as I'm getting a laptop soon ^^ and I'll be borrowing my uncle's camera and using my own phone~)

When selecting a bag, look for a roomy one with not too many dangly parts and several compartments inside (especially with a zipper).

What to carry onto the plane:

  • A fashion magazine: I brought Yen and Frankie's latest issues. Vogue and the Chinese magazine Mina are also great options. Good to read on flight as the large images and not too detailed writing are perfect for those who may suffer some air sickness.
  • A novel: Rather than on the plane, I plan to read while in China. I know I won't be going out ALL the time, so I may as well catch up on a novel ^^
  • Passport: If you don't bring this, say goodbye to your trip. Haha.
  • Ipod: Easy, and do I need to explain why? Don't forget the charger (and also phone charger.)
  • Simple makeup: Of course it's Passport to Posh by Benefit! Don't wear it ON the plane but once you get off, it's everything you need to brighten yourself up.
  • Pawpaw lip balm: Lucas' brand, I think. Long flights can cause dry lips (and skin, if you need to bring that, bring a sample size). A good alternative is getting some 'palette' things from Daiso, which you can put liquid make up in. Easy~
  • A notebook and pen: To write down your adventures ^^ The pen is also important for that paper declaration you have to complete on board the plane.
  • Your wallet: bring ID, medical cards and credit cards. Also bring some money in your home currency for those duty free stores, and some exchanged currency so that when you get off the plane, you can check in immediately. The rest of your funds should stay on your card.
  • Glasses/sunnies: If you need them, like I do!
  • A warm jumper/jacket: Even if you're in boiling hot Aussie summer weather outside the plane, once you get on, and especially at night, it gets really cold! >A<!!
Also not pictured: your phone (self explanatory) and pads and tampons, ESPECIALLY if you're going to say, an Asian country, and generally use tampons. In Beijing at least, there's not as many options for tampons. And besides, what if you get your period on the plane? Yikes... ; _ ;

Hope you're all having a great holiday! I know I am ;)

Till next time,

Style diaries - Birthday dinner

Hey everybody! This is my last blog post written in Sydney for about a month ^^ Hopefully Blogger will work in China, if not... well... I'll have to find an alternative T^T I know my Lookbook will definitely not be blocked so if you are interested, please follow me there!

Anyways, last night I went to the restaurant Black by Ezard for a close friend's 18th birthday party. Holy crap, the place is fancy. The bathrooms have wrapped scented hand towels instead of the coarse paper alternative, AND not only do they have these deliciously scented hand washes, they also had hand lotions. I was amazed.

It was also ridiculously hard to take selfies in there cos it was so dark xD So sadly I did not. T^T We had a really late dinner (started eating 10pm....!) When we first sat in, we were asked for ID xD Speaking of ID, my mum and dad dropped me off on the wrong side of the Star, so I had to walk through the casino...!! The dealers at those tables wore some snazzy outfits, for sure.

Anyways, back to being seated, we started of with eating the typical bread-and-butter starter, however their bread was incredibly soft with butter AND sprinkled volcanic rock salt, giving it a tangy burst of flavour.

After that, we shared entrees (and thank god, as I wouldn't have finished my main afterwards...) which had vegetarian, beef and crab options. They tasted amazing. The beef had some rice sort of crackers in them, making it taste sooo good.

We also talked for ages. Here's the part where I can show you a photo of what I had, cos I finally took one xD

Pan fried toothfish with capers and soft herbs as the main dish, Egyptian Ice mocktail (consisting of tea, rose, hibiscus, apple and lime) and a white wine, which I took about two sips from xD It was sooo good! I regret not finishing the mocktail because by then I could almost not move, and I had to go due to a flight (tonight!!) But hey, I finished the fish as though my life depended on it xD It tasted amazing!!

Finally, the dress code was "cocktail" and I took liberties because I've had this OOTD in mind for a while...

Sorry for blurry indoor photos, potato quality T^T I have to rely on a tripod and timer >A> ;;

A very happy birthday to my close friend, if you're reading this! I hope you'll find my gift useful and enjoyed reading the mini essay I wrote you, 10/10 would go again.

Also, eating so late was totally bad for me, I woke up at 5am with... hm, indigestion... (let's... leave it at that). The dream which I woke up from was also weird, and it involved Tokyo Ghoul xD)

Anyways, I've queued up another post. I'll be in China when it is updated, I think 8)

Till next time,

Amy xoxo

Blogger's letter

Hi everyone!

So begins the online one-person zine, sunlight streaming ^^ I've always wanted to write a magazine and with powerful blogging tools this makes such things easier and more accessible than ever. It's almost laughable that it never occurred to me that blogging and writing a magazine could easily be combined into the one hobby. Well, I've had denser moments, what can I say?

My first outing in almost several months will be coming up shortly - expect a blog about that, some general posts about gift buying for the person who has everything, and what to wear to cocktail/semi-formal events, and also about what I've been doing in the meantime.

As I'll be heading overseas in almost 10 short days, expect a lull and then surge in blogging about... winter clothing. Yep. Sorry. At the least there'll be an early introduction to winter clothing trends... right? And you can look at all the foodporn I will post, haha~

Finally, Valentine's Day is coming up. Whether you're single, taken, or not sure what's happening, I'll hopefully entertain you with what you can wear and do.

For now, that's all I can think of. Hope you enjoy and have a happy new year.

xoxo Amy

Issue 1: Debut

Hey everyone! Finally decided to turn my childhood hobby of making magazines into a project zine. ^^ This is the cover and contents page which will be added to over next two months. I've decided to make a "bimonthly" zine, i.e. one every two months. Happy reading!

[a cover will later be here]

1. Blogger's letter: Basically, the editor's letter, but since this is a one-girl zine, I think it should be fine. [x]

2. Style diaries: Posts about lifestyle, fashion style, and personal things. [x]

Till next time~
